An introduction to EDI – Speaker: Alex Levine.

More than ever, we are aware of the inequities that exist for underrepresented groups like women, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, and other equity entitled groups. It continues to be our collective responsibility to ensure that we allow equitable access for participation from these groups, and additionally, to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone to thrive in our lab and research environment.

This session will include education on the basic concepts of EDI, principles and best practices of equity and inclusion, and how these can be applied in the lab and research environment. We will go through some examples of meaningful land acknowledgments, inclusive scientific practice and language, and how to create open and safe spaces for all.

AGM and Networking Session. In this session we will hold our annual general meeting. In this session we will discuss the preliminary results of our postdoc survey and share our focuses for the upcoming year. After the AGM we will have a networking session where the topic of conversation will be ‘living in London’. This is a great opportunity for postdocs who are new to London to get ideas of what’s around in the city and for people who have been here a while to meet the new postdocs on campus. We will also be joined by Natalie Wakabayashi, Director of Culture & Entertainment Tourism London, and she will share her insights of living in London.
